Equal opportunities Policy 2024
Kirkcudbright Fringe Festival CIC Equal Opportunities Policy: Version 1: June 2024
Summary of Kirkcudbright Fringe Festival (KFF) CIC’s Equal Opportunity Policy
Kirkcudbright Fringe Festival (KFF) CIC will ensure that Directors, Advisory Group members, unpaid and paid staff, artists and performers, external contractors (including caterers, technicians), audiences (actual and virtual) are treated equally regardless of age, disability, ethnic or national origin, gender, marital or parental status, race, religion, sexual orientation or their socio-economic situation. Directors, Advisory Group members, unpaid and paid staff, and artists and performers with whom the CIC contracts all have a responsibility to adhere to this policy.
Implementing, monitoring and reviewing KFF CIC’s Equal Opportunity Policy
KFF CIC’s equal opportunities policy will be implemented across its work in:
- Appointing Directors and Advisory Group members
- Appointing staff – unpaid, paid, external contractors etc
- Programming KFF CIC activities and events
- Interacting with volunteers, sponsors, audiences and members of the public
KFF CIC will take account of existing legislation relating to equal opportunities, and ensure that this policy is implemented, monitored and reviewed on an annual basis. Directors will deal fairly and timeously with any complaints or allegations of discrimination and commit to responding to any such complaint within a week of receipt.
Appointing Directors and Advisory Group members
KFF CIC aims for its organisation to be as diverse as possible, including its Directors and Advisory Group. We acknowledge that this is something that will take time, and the CIC Directors will consider options to broaden representation as the Fringe matures.
Appointing staff – unpaid, paid, external contractors etc
KFF CIC will ensure that no unpaid or paid staff member receives less favourable treatment than another because of age, disability, ethnic origin, marital or parental status, religion, race, gender, sexual orientation or their socio-economic situation.
- Volunteers working with KFF CIC will be informed of this policy and receive training on equal opportunities issues as appropriate.
- KFF CIC is committed to following open recruitment and selection procedures and where appropriate future vacancies for paid work will be advertised, and fair and equitable selection processes followed.
Programming KFF CIC activities and events
KFF CIC wants to present a rich and diverse programme, to reflect the broadest sweep of creativity and imagination. To achieve this we will:
- Highlight and address barriers that prevent potential participants, members and users from having equal access, working with partner agencies and other stakeholders as appropriate.
- Ensure that diversity is reflected in every Fringe programme, and that selection and choices are made that enhance the variety and range of performers and speakers especially concerning age, ethnic or national origin, gender, race, sexual orientation and their socio-economic situation.
Interacting with volunteers, sponsors, audiences and members of the public
KFF CIC wants its events and activities to be inclusive and welcoming to as wide a range of the public as possible. To do this, we will:
- Ensure that no artists and performers produce content that will offend, discriminate against or is prejudicial against any group or individual on grounds of their age, disability, ethnic or national origin, gender, marital or parental status, race, religion, sexual orientation or their socio-economic situation.
- Seek to build and grow our audiences to be as mixed and diverse as possible, including by working with specific groups, such as children and young people, to ensure that their wishes and contributions are fully included.
This policy will be reviewed annually. Next review June 2025
